FOR TODAY June 30th, 2008

Outside My Window… A sunny, blue-sky day with a slight breeze going through the maples.

I am thinking… dinner smells good in the oven right now (beef and pork pasty.

I am thankful for… my DH who has been so helpful during my pregnancy.

From the kitchen… pasties are in the oven.  The fridge and pantry are pretty bare beyond that – I’m doing my monthly grocery shopping trip tomorrow.

I am wearing… jeans, Tar Heels t-shirt, and my hair is pulled back into a ponytail.

I am creating… a monthly grocery shopping list.

I am going… no where this evening.  We are watching a movie at home.

I am reading… Countdown my Pregnancy, My Pregnancy Week by Week, and many magazines.

I am hoping… to have a relaxing evening at home.

I am hearing… techno music from DH’s computer.

Around the house… it’s pretty calm.  DH is playing WoW, the puppies are alseep in the chair, and I have enough energy to update. :)

One of my favorite things…  these days?  Sleep!

A Few Plans For The Rest Of The Week: grocery shopping tomorrow, strawberry picking Wednesday, work on Thursday, and 4th of July celebrations Friday-Sunday.

Here is picture thought I am sharing… a picture from our camping trip last week.

Smart Habit Saturday (a day late) :)

The last Smart Habit Saturday was a few weeks ago, but I haven’t forgotten about it or given up on any of the goals.  I believe I am accomplishing all of the goals and continue to do so – I’ve been drinking as much water as I can, taking my vitamins at night, making pretty healthy food choices (we all need cheats once in awhile), I’ve been reading about pregnancy and birth everyday, and I have been working out.  I’ve been running, walking, and riding my bike to work and home.  I even ran a 5K yesterday. :)

My goal this week is plain and simple – COOK AT HOME!  With work and feeling generally tired most of the time, I have not given my kitchen and cooking enough attention.  I find it easier just to go out to eat, and although I think I have been making good food choices it certaintly doesn’t make it budget friendly.  This week, I’m going back into the kitchen.  I will be cooking!

Mary Kay – Pink to Green?

Some of you may know a lot more than I do about natural beauty products, but I have to admit somewhere that I sell Mary Kay.  I was really struggling with this a few months ago because I had heard there were parabens in their products, and I fully wanted to switch to organic.  I stopped using MK, I bought organic facewash, I used organic oils for moisturizers, and I didn’t wear makeup.  After a few months, I had the worst acne ever and decided to switch back to my trusted pink bottles.  It quickly cleared up and I no longer felt like a 13 year old.  I know it probably wasn’t the most wise thing to do, but it’s what I did.

Now I am happy to know that Mary Kay is launching a going green campaign.  Thank you to all of the people who asked the company questions – questions about what MK does for the environment and what kinds of things they use in their products.  I know this company is good because they are listening.  Things don’t change overnight, but things are moving in the right direction now.

I know after seminar in Texas, we will be hearing more about natural products and the fight against those nasty chemicals. Thank you Mary Kay for listening and keep on changing for the better. You’ve won me back!

WFMW – Morning Sickness

The fight against morning sickness has begun, and I am trying to do all I can to keep it at bay.  The first thing I do is stay hydrated.  Dehydration is believed to bring on morning sickness and the queasies, so I have a water bottle with me at all times.  Not only that, but if vomiting were to strike at least I know that I have been doing my part to stay hydrated at the very least.

I snack between meals.  I know that I am only supposed to consume about 300 extra calories per day, but if I snack between meals it makes my stomach feel a lot better.  Good snacks for this are crackers, toast with peanut butter, or fruit.  I like cheese too, but I think that is my cravings talking. :)

I drink teas that have a calming effect like mint and chamomile.  They seem to ease my stomach and also add to my water intake.

I’m not complaining! :)

I’m sorry it’s been so long and some posts still have unanswered comments.  That is not like me, but I’m SO TIRED!  Why didn’t anyone warn me that it would feel as if almost every waking moment feels as though I just got hit by a semi-truck?  Wowzers!

I’m thankful to be pregnant with the little Sprout – it’s just a tiring affair to grow another life. :)

7 Cheap Date Ideas

  1. Movies at home. One thing we really love around here is movies, so we get Netflix. We pay $14/month to get movies delivered to our door. Usually we choose them together, and then when we have a spare night and want to stay in (or are short on cash) – we pop in a movie that we have. We really enjoy always having this option for a cheap and easy date night. If you like popcorn with your movies, you should read these frugal and tasty popcorn recipes.
  2. Play board games! It’s so nice to put on some quiet music to sit around the table and play. Our favorites are Chrononauts, Poker, and Settlers of Catan.
  3. Go to a park. We like taking our dogs to the park or by the marina and we just walk around and talk. It’s nice to go for a stroll together and hold hands once in awhile.
  4. Make dinner together. Turn on some music, pull out your recipes, and help each other cook. While you eat – put out some candles. :)
  5. Go stargazing or watch the sunset or the sunrise together. DH picked me up one morning before school (yes – high school) and took me to see the sunrise. It was amazing!
  6. Go for a day hike and pack a picnic. We’ve even done this in the middle of winter.
  7. Visit your local museum, visitor center or other local interests. Bring your camera and take pictures along the way.

If you have more cheap and frugal date ideas, be sure to share. Especially the ones you really enjoy! =)
