Rebecca reminded me that I haven’t updated about my Reiki Level I certification that I’m in the process of completing.
Well, let’s start with a little bit of history of reiki in case I scared people by mentioning it. In the words of William Lee Rand (who is a practioner of the Usui Reiki which I am also training in) says, “Reiki is a Japanese form of stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes healing.” On a side note, it is much like the laying of hands in Christianity. It is believed that we all have Reiki energy – energy that is positive, energy that can be passed on to others for relaxation and healing. On a more scientific side, a human body is electrical in nature with electrical currents running through our blood and our nerves. One machine that can measure electrical current in our body is the electrocardiogram, which measures the electrical activity of our hearts. It has been found that the hands of healers produce strong pulsing electromagnetic fields, and when a healer treats someone who is sick the hands begin pulsing at a rate that the body needs to to treat tissues and organs that may be “out of sync” and can help to bring it back to a healthy state.
A friend of mine who is also my yoga teacher, is a Reiki Master. She was offering classes and trainings for Reiki and I was curious about it, but I never put much thought into it. Another friend of mine, A, decided she was being called to take the weekend training to help her husband with his pain. She asked if I would join her, and it was just the push I needed. I have been called to be a nurturer in life, I believe. I try to care for myself in the best way I can by meditating, doing yoga, creating a peaceful home with homemade meals. I try to care for my loved ones including my new little Sprout. What a better way to start caring for friends, family, and others who I will cross paths with than Reiki?
My weekend retreat was amazingly spiritual and opened me up to heal myself. I learned about chakras and how many of mine were closed. I learned what steps needed to be taken to have a balanced body, and the past few months I have been working towards that. I have read a few books that I needed to get my marriage where I wanted it, become involved in a Tolle meditation group, working out and doing yoga regularly, and working on being a better steward of the Earth.
I think I have come to a place where I am ready to work towards finishing my certification. I need to receive Reiki from 2 other practioners (if you are one or know one who I could trade a session with that would be great), complete 6 sessions on others, and complete 6 sessions on myself. I also need to write an essay, but now I can use parts of this.
I’d love to share more about Reiki with anyone who is interested. If you have questions, please feel free to ask. If you live nearby, or I’ll be visiting you soon, and you’d like a free session (donations welcome) I’d be more than willing to share Reiki with you in that way.
A big thanks again to Rebecca for reminding me to look at Reiki again and re-evaluate where I am with it. I have realized many things by you just saying that I should blog about it. Namaste!

this just fascinates me. and makes me all the more sad that i wasn’t able to go to her yoga retreat with you last year
i could write so much about it, but will instead save it for an in-person conversation this weekend.
what do you think of this training in the lou?: http://healingtoday.com/classes.mo.htm (i’d be interested except it seems odd that you had a whole weekend for your Level 1, and this does Levels 1 and 2 all in one day)
Oh, wow. Now I wish I lived nearby!
Have you done any Qigong? When I was in China, I loved learning about that.
Blessings,
Michele
Rebecca ~ Can’t wait to chat with you in person!! I think that you’ll get the very basics out of that class, but I’d be looking for something more. I had 1 1/2 days of hands on experience – receiving Reiki and giving it. We also got a book, a study guide, CD, DVD, and cards to walk you through a session. We also dabbled in other divination with runes, medicine cards, pendulums, and crystals. It was very well rounded and hit everyone differently.
Michele ~ No I haven’t, but I read a little bit about it. I bet it was fun to learn about – especially while in China!!!
Jen – this is so neat, I wish we had courses like this up here.
How did you know that some of your Chakras were closed??
Monica – We used to a pendulum and asked at each chakra point if it was open. The only one of mine that I remember being open was the crown, which is the connection to the divine. I believe my heart was open by the end of my one session, but I had a huge rose quartz on my heart chakra too which also helped. I should have a friend check me again to see if I have made any progress on my own.
This talks about it a little more – http://www.reiki-for-holistic-health.com/chakra-balancing-healing.html
