At the end of August, I decided to start decluttering my house. One place I started was the kitchen. I had been fighting with my kitchen for awhile trying to keep it clean, and it finally dawned on me that I had too much STUFF!
So here are some things I did to simplify and declutter the kitchen ~
- I went through all of the cupboards and donated (or gave to family) things I had duplicates of or didn’t use anymore. Nesting bowls went to my mom since she didn’t have any and I had THREE sets. See what I mean? I donated about 4 bags of goodies just from my kitchen alone.
- I then organized my cupboards in a way that I could see everything that was in each one. Then when I went looking for something, it wouldn’t be so hard to find.
- The pantry was reorganized to put like items together (pastas, canned veggies, baking items, spices, etc)
- I cleaned my table so that it wouldn’t be a catch all anymore. I decorated it with a few nice things like a tablecloth and it certainly made my kitchen prettier and a lot easier to set the table for dinner.
- One really tiny piece of advice I have for everyone is simplify everything for cooking you can. Last night, as I was spraying my muffin tin with non-stick spray I started complaining about putting the lid back on. It’s so hard to get on and off, and then the lightbulb went off. Do I need this lid?! No! I threw it away, and it sure will simplify the next time I use that spray.

Jennifer, I saw your comment on another blog about GORP, so I thought I’d come over and say hi.
Our brownie troop had that this year as their first snack and just loved it.
Like you, I’ve been on a mission to declutter, but unfortunately, I’m much slower at it than I had hoped. Good luck and great kitchen tips!
Craftymom ~ Thanks for stopping by my blog.
I haven’t been involved in GS for a few years but I co-lead a Brownie troop and lead a Daisy troop. I loved it.
Good luck decluttering! I’ve just been in quick mode because I’m expecting a baby in February.
I hate cooking spray lids and I’m pretty sure they hate me, too. It’s either that or they’re just angry little things. Never occurred to me to just toss the lid; what in the world do I need it for anyway? Haha. Thanks for sharing.
Amy ~ I’m glad I’m not alone. Those lids are evil. Toss them!!
Thanks for stopping.
Great ideas. We’re on a massive (three weeks so far) decluttering mission too. Haven’t gotten to the kitchen yet, but I’m glad I read this before I did!
BTW, thanks for the WFMW kitchen table tip. I literally jumped up from the computer after I read it, cleared it off (almost 1 hr), and pulled out some placemats and a pretty candle. It’s not perfect, stuff still gets dropped there, but not as much, and it gets cleared once or twice a day. And we can find room to eat as a family most nights.
Thanks! Changed my life.
Love the comment about the lid. I just threw mine out. I always hated that thing but felt it should be there, just because.
