I’ve been tagged…

Rebecca tagged me, so here goes nothing. :)

Rules:

Link to your tagger and list the rules
List 7 random facts about yourself
Tag 7 people
If you’re tagged, play along and pass it on!

One:  I have a temper.  It’s not something I am proud of, but  most people who know me wouldn’t guess it.  Generally, I bet I look pretty mild and meek – until you make me angry!  It’s something I’m working on.

Two:  I love to cook and eat.  Lately it seems like I can’t keep myself full.  I can’t tell if it’s a mentality that since I’m pregnant I can pig out or if I really need all the extra I’m taking in.  I have learned to become a grazer.

Three:  Although I am trying to live more simple, I had a really hard time fighting off the urge to spend money and be dragged into the consumerism way of life.  It would be a lot easier if I never had to leave home. :D

Four:  I took out my dreads.  It feels so good to have strands again!

Five:  I have two beagles and two siamese cats, and I can proudly say that they were all adopted from shelters/vets.  One beagle was even saved from a kill shelter.

Six:   I believe the election results really were the change we needed to see in our country.  “Be the change you want to see in the world.”  I voted for what I believed was the right path for that.

Seven:  I have been obsessed with this blog the last few days – Mrs. O.

I’m tagging ~  Frugal Granola (although I know she’s moving and all), Daily Dose, and Mocha Mom.

A baby shower for Sprout

Sorry I haven’t updated in awhile, but I wanted to let you know that all is well here.  This week was just terribly busy, and when you are trying to live simply something needs to be put on hold – this week it just happened to be the blog.

I had my glucose test this past week to check for gestational diabetes.  I believe it went fine and I will have a glowing report when I see my Dr. on Wednesday.  I also had my cheerleaders’ first game on Thursday night.  The boy’s basketball team won, and the cheerleaders looked fabulous.  So much so that one of the fans yelled from the stands, “You look better than Varsity!” :)   On Friday night, I helped host a Halloween Dance at the school.  It was the cheerleader’s fundraiser for our season, and they had a good showing of kids, no problems, and we profited a few hundred dollars!  They worked so hard (along with their parents) to make it a success, and I am so glad that is was.

And lastly, yesterday was my baby shower (hence the picture above).  I am still in so much amazement at how loved and blessed I am.  Sprout’s room is overflowing with clothes, cloth diapers, books, toys, and baby care items.  Much of it is organized already (GO ME!)  But every time I walk in there, I just can’t believe that’s all for me, for Sprout, for the whole family.  This baby will be raised with so much love and support.  It makes me so joyous!

What is new with all of you since it’s been so long it seems?  Take care and enjoy the rest of Sunday! <3

Prepare your home for Fall

One of my biggest pet peeves about Christmas (which I LOVE don’t get me wrong), is that most people rush through celebrating Fall, Halloween, and Thanksgiving because they want Christmas to be here NOW.  I have always waited until one holiday has passed before celebrating another – I guess that’s the equality in me coming out. :)

At 100 Days to Christmas, they are talking about decorating for Fall.  Just this past week, I dug out my Fall decorations and this is what I have done so far~

  1. Put two bright mums out on my porch.  They are red and yellow and such a beautiful indication of Fall.
  2. I received a pumpkin from my CSA that has been in my kitchen as a decoration for awhile – soon it will turn into a pumpkin pie or pumpkin bars.
  3. I put out my Fall/Halloween decorations – stuffed pumpkins, wooden pumpkins, wreaths, scarecrows, Autumn placemats….
  4. I have stocked up my kitchen with fall goodies – pumpkin spice tea, pumpkin spice latte mix, apple cider and cocoa mix, fixins for pie, and ingredients to make soups and chili.
  5. I bought Fall candles at Walmart.  They were small jar candles for $1, so I got pumpkin spice of course and mulled cider.  Are you seeing a pumpkin obsession yet?
  6. I also put my Bath and Body Works cinnamon pumpkin spice body gel in the shower. :)
  7. The last thing I have to complete is make the change in the closets and bring up our winter clothes from the basement.  That’s a day project that will have to wait until I get some free time, but I better not wait too long.  The chill is settling!

HAPPY FALL!

Tidbits

  • I am in my 19th week of pregnancy already!  Next week is my ultrasound, and hopefully Sprout will share his/her gender with us because we really want to know. :)   I’ll be sure to pass along the news to you as soon as I can.
  • I had enrolled in a class at the community college as an auditing student, but come to find out they changed the fees and instead of paying for 20% of tuition I would’ve been paying 120%.  Needless to say I dropped, but I am going in today to see if he’ll let me sit in anyway.
  • I have completed another month’s worth of groceries around here.  I don’t know what it is, but planning my menus, making a huge list, spending time reading labels, and organizing it all when I get home sure makes me feel good.  I know – there is something strange about that. :D
  • I have started sewing my cloth napkins, but James and I are sharing the sewing machine because he is making a backpack.  At least it’s started though and we have a few to wipe our faces on. :)
  • I really love Fall!  Why do I always forget?  But when I open up my Fall decorations and I can smell anything related to pumpkin spice, I am in heaven.  I’m enjoying it even more now that I found decaf pumpkin spice tea (add a teaspoon of milk and sugar and it’s divine!!)
  • Happy Thursday!

A friend in need…

I have a friend from Joyful Abode who has a very gracious and loving heart, and as she was walking her dog the other night she came upon a stray.  She decided to take the stray home, give it food and water, and also bring it to the vet.  It’s skinny and has fleas and needs some TLC, but in order for her to take better care of this animal (and pay for vet fees) she needs assistance from us.

She is having a raffle on her site and for a few dollars, you could donate money and possibly win a crafty gift.  Or if you are just feeling generous and want to help out this pretty, sweet pup there is a donate button for such givings as well.  If you can’t at this time give money or partake in the raffle, please send this pup good thoughts, prayers, and energy for healing and strength.

Big changes

There are a lot of things going on in our household.  We figure that if we are expecting a new baby that some things around here can’t lay dormant anymore.  The family room was in need of a huge face lift, and we finally had the money and the motivation to get moving on it.  Painting, new ceiling, all new lighting fixtures, new flooring, new trim, new curtains, and new rugs.  Whew!  We’re almost done, and we’ll be moving our things back in soon.

After that, we’ll be hitting decluttering mode full-force.  On my good days when I have more energy, which are becoming more and more, I have tackled some things.  I declutterd my kitchen, the dvds, some clothes, and my bookshelves.  That has amassed almost 200 items!  Some of my books I took to a book exchange where I got $35 in credit. :)   The other things will be headed to St. Vincent DePaul’s tomorrow.  Once I make room in my house, I believe that I will be blessed with newer and better things.  Things that I need, and things that I can consciously make choices about owning.

Not only that, but I am making room for a new life in our home and our family.  That makes me feel good! :)

Saturday Morning Meme

I am stealing a meme from Rebecca.  I surely hope she doesn’t mind. :)

I am: sitting at the kitchen table using the laptop in my pjs and drinking a decaf chai latte.

I think: today will be good day.

I thank: James for sharing his fruit and veggie smoothie with me.

I know: that I need to clean my bedroom.

I wish: for a healthy and happy pregnancy.

I hate: that word.

I miss: my Grandparents, my family who lives in NC, and old friends.

I feel: good today. :D   Yesterday… that’s another story.

I shop:  at Woodman’s for groceries and mostly everything else is online.  I just order Kate Quinn Organic clothes for Baby Sprout through an MDC co-op.

I hear: DH playing WoW.

I crave: a day at the beach.

I wonder: what Sprout will look like.

I dream: of owning a log home in the woods someday.  With a large garden, chickens, and lots of kiddos running through the fields.

I love:  my husband with all of my being.

I care: about the state of the world.

I always: tell my mom I love her before I hang up the phone.  (Me too Bec!)

I celebrate: a little everyday.

I sing: loudly and out of key, but I love it.

I cry: about the story of Christian the Lion.  Uncontrollably.

I don’t always: wash my face before bed.

I write: in journals (online and paper).

I pray: in my own way.

I lose: my keys at least a few times a week.

I listen: to suggestions.

I am scared: of losing my baby.

I dance: whenever the beat moves me.

I need: to get a lot of sleep these days.

I surf: only on the internets.

I dread: waking up at 7 on a Saturday morning.

I anticipate: February and becoming a mama.

I laugh: at myself more and more each day.
