Stepping Lightly V14.0

The further I get along in my pregnancy, the more I see my body asking for rest and relaxation.  My to-do lists are checked off – the bags are packed, her room is ready, clothes and cloth diapers are washed, and our house has been rearranged and cleaned.  Now it’s just a time in our lives to be patient.  To breathe.  To enjoy the final days of just husband and wife.  To put our feet up.

I am indulging in this season (trying to remain calm and not too anxious about her arrival :) ).  I have been reading books that I have wanted to tackle, including Twilight.  We’ve watched a lot of movies from Netflix cuddled on the couch and we even went to see a 3D movie in the theater wearing funny looking glasses.

Most nights, I have opted to stay in rather than going out to do something.  It’s my time to remain in my home, taking care of myself and Sprout, and enjoying my last few days of just being me.  I know the next season of motherhood will be just as glorious, but the present moment is just as much as a gift.

Folding prefold cloth diapers

I will admit, I have never put a prefold onto a baby before.  Add to that, I’ve never even put on one of those “cadillac” cloth diapers like the BumGenius 3.0′s.  I still have a lot to learn when it comes to cloth diapering, so I hope Sprout is a patient little child who will let mommy and daddy use her as a guinea pig for a little bit. :)

I did start putting some things into her diaper bag this morning though – including some prefolds and her x-small cover.  I figured today would be a good day to research some folding techniques for these diapers.  I may just have to print the site I found and take it with me to the hospital.  :)

According to this site, there is the basic fold (which seems like something I can handle), the twist fold, the orgami fold (too much for me?), and the fold in thirds method.  If you cloth diaper, which fold do you use?  Does one work better for boys and one for girls?

33 weeks pregnant!

Can you believe that I am 33 weeks pregnant?  I have 7 weeks left if Baby Sprout arrives near her due date.  That is less than 50 days until baby is here!  The countdown is definitely on, and I can’t believe how fast it’s zooming by now.

My belly is starting to get big and round, and finally others can tell that I am expecting.  It’s fun to hear the comments from people (at least so far).  Please bless me with only nice people comments! :)   Speaking of big and round, yoga and poses are getting difficult as is tying shoes, getting up from the couch, and trying to get in and out of our Jeep.

By this week in the pregnancy, Sprout should average about 4.5 pounds and 19 inches long.  Her lungs should almost be fully developed, she responds to light and sound (this I already know and feel movement in response to it every day), and she continues to elbow my tummy and stick her foot out to stretch while I want to show off that little footbump on my tummy.

What a blessing this whole experience has been!  I can’t believe at my next appointment, I need to pick a peditritian.  The countdown is now on!!

WFMW – Preparing for baby!

I have been preparing for a baby long before I became pregnant, but the preparing that has gone on during the past 30 weeks has been a busy time.  I can only imagine what the next 10 weeks will be like in preparation for Sprout’s arrival.

Our baby shower surely helped us a lot to get ready for baby.  We were blessed with clothes to 12 months, co-sleeper, pack ‘n play, toy box, jogging stroller, and many things to help with my attachment parenting – slings, cloth diapers, and many things to support breastfeeding.

As the time ticks down, we will start preparing our house for a new little life.  Some things that are on my list:

  • This week we will be installing new doors in the family room to better insulate. Then we can finally move our office back out there.  It’s been SO long.
  • Once the office is in the family room, DH’s computer won’t be in the living room.  The new rocker/recliner will take it’s place.  After a good thorough cleaning/vacuuming in the living room of course.
  • Prep all diapers (40 prefolds, a dozen covers, and a dozen BG 3.0′s)
  • Set up pack ‘n play and co-sleeper.
  • Thoroughly clean the bedroom (remove everything, vacuum/dust, add things back in and rearrange to accommodate 3 of us :D )
  • Pack hospital bag.
  • Put carseat into the vehicle.

It doesn’t sound like ALL that much to do in 10 weeks really, but maneuvering around the holiday season with gift buying/giving, decorating, baking, and all those fun things — it really will go by FAST!

A baby shower for Sprout

Sorry I haven’t updated in awhile, but I wanted to let you know that all is well here.  This week was just terribly busy, and when you are trying to live simply something needs to be put on hold – this week it just happened to be the blog.

I had my glucose test this past week to check for gestational diabetes.  I believe it went fine and I will have a glowing report when I see my Dr. on Wednesday.  I also had my cheerleaders’ first game on Thursday night.  The boy’s basketball team won, and the cheerleaders looked fabulous.  So much so that one of the fans yelled from the stands, “You look better than Varsity!” :)   On Friday night, I helped host a Halloween Dance at the school.  It was the cheerleader’s fundraiser for our season, and they had a good showing of kids, no problems, and we profited a few hundred dollars!  They worked so hard (along with their parents) to make it a success, and I am so glad that is was.

And lastly, yesterday was my baby shower (hence the picture above).  I am still in so much amazement at how loved and blessed I am.  Sprout’s room is overflowing with clothes, cloth diapers, books, toys, and baby care items.  Much of it is organized already (GO ME!)  But every time I walk in there, I just can’t believe that’s all for me, for Sprout, for the whole family.  This baby will be raised with so much love and support.  It makes me so joyous!

What is new with all of you since it’s been so long it seems?  Take care and enjoy the rest of Sunday! <3

Cheap Maternity Clothes

Have you ever noticed how expensive maternity clothes are?!  They are pretty outrageously priced, and I can understand why so many people have 1 or 2 pairs of maternity pants and a few shirts that they mix and match.  Maternity clothes are enough to break a budget, especially these days!

So I have treated myself to a few new things (mostly because I had a gift card or they were on extreme sales), but I have really been into thrifting for my clothes.  Since I am fairly small, I can get away with moving up sizes of regular pants or tops which is exactly what I did when I was stocking up on sweaters.  I made sure I bought styles that were long and stretchy and a size bigger.  For $11 at St. Vincent de Paul’s, I got 6 winter sweaters and I think all but one will fit until I give birth.

I don’t shop at Goodwill as much, but my mom, sister, and I happened to go there on our day out on Monday.  They actually had a maternity section, although there wasn’t much to choose from, I did find a few things in my size.  I got a  pair of maternity jeans for $3.99 and I found a maternity dress (that I will probably wear to my shower) for $6.99.  As I tried on the dress though, I realized there was a hole in it so I asked the cashier if they gave discounts for that sort of thing.  She gave me 25% off!

I spent about $20 at the thrift stores, but I think I am all set with my maternity clothes!  For more frugal ideas, visit Biblical Womanhood.

Talking about pregnancy – 1st 20 weeks!

I am 20 weeks pregnant today, and I can’t believe that I am half way there.  I know I have many days ahead of me until I meet my precious little baby Sprout, but I have to admit how blessed I have been so far.  So I was tired my first three months – tired like I’ve never felt before and sure I felt a little queasy (and even got sick once but only once it quite amazing) but still!  I have gained only about 6 pounds and when I wear a regular t-shirt, most people can’t even tell I’m expecting yet.  I am active once again walking, doing yoga, biking, and feeling like myself.

20 weeks pregnant means that my uterus is about even with my belly button and baby baby is about 6 1/2 inches long and weighs about 9 ounces.  He/she has all of it’s parts and is learning to grasp and suck its fingers and move around a lot, which I feel more and more often as each day passes.  Sprout’s body is also covered in vernix and will continue to grow longer, fatten up, and have fully developed lungs before birth.

Tomorrow is my ultrasound, and I am both excited and nervous.  Is everything okay?  Is Sprout a boy/girl – I have an intuition but what if I’m wrong?  What if I don’t find out tomorrow?  Am I really ready for all of this?

What an amazing process this all has been.  I hope the next 20 weeks will be just as amazing as the first 20 were.  I can’t wait to meet my little babe. :)

Baby Goodies!

I ordered some Kate Quinn Organic baby clothes through a co-op (which saved me a pretty penny), and I received them today.  They are too cute not to share.  The yellow one is a sleep sacque, which has the cute little hand covers in case baby is a scratcher.  The wrap-like onesie I really wanted in chocolate with white lining, but it was out of stock in the newborn size.  I do like the combo this way though too.  Now I must find some baby legs or pants to match. :)   I don’t think Sprout will fit in that outfit long.  I also got a pack of washcloths, which I figured I would put in the bathroom (since it matches our colors) and they will be Sprout’s for bathtime.  They are so soft!

Now a picture for your enjoyment!
